Technical and Management Support Services for Solar Buildings Technology Research and Development Programs, U.S. Department of Energy

ANTARES evaluated near-and long-term improvements in solar technology cost and performance, and estimated installed costs, energy output, and operating energy for solar and conventional technology. Technologies evaluated included active heating and domestic hot water systems, active solar cooling, passive heating, and daylighting (switchable glazings and holographic window films). Active, passive, and daylighting systems were evaluated for both residential and commercial buildings. Research issues were identified, and assistance was provided to establish five-year and long-term goals for the Solar Buildings Program.

ANTARES developed the methods and computer analysis tools for evaluating the performance of advanced daylighting technologies. The objective was a first-order approximation of the daylighting contribution to typical office lighting requirements and its impacts on space heating, cooling loads, and building electrical demand.

ANTARES also analyzed opportunities for solar technologies to improve indoor air quality. Indoor air pollutant sources and conventional treatments were reviewed.
