Hybrid Solar Lighting Technology, Oak Ridge National Laboratory

For the Oak Ridge National Laboratory, ANTARES evaluated the prototype Hybrid Solar Lighting (HSL) Technology and researched the potential to achieve cost reductions through product engineering. HSL systems collect and concentrate sunlight into multiple large-core optical fibers and route the light to several hybrid luminaires (light fixtures) that distribute both sunlight and electric light into rooms.

ANTARES created a comprehensive 10 year capital, operations, and maintenance cost model for the technology and compared competing daylighting technologies to it. ANTARES also performed a national level market analysis to evaluate the prospective impact of HSL in the marketplace, and estimated the environmental benefits of HSL based on various market scenarios.
